With the Olympics now underway it seems like 2012 is a year that will test the strength and physical fitness of people from all four corners of the world. Wales is no exception, and on 16th September in Pembrokeshire the Ironman Wales triathlon will be taking place for the second year running.

The day is a gruelling test for Pembrokeshire’s men and women to find out if they have a will of iron and can last the whole race; a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run. The run by itself is approximately the distance of a marathon, so the scale of this challenge is huge.

Those who are staying in Saundersfoot cottages are particularly well placed to see the bike course as the route goes straight through the town. The top 50 who finish will also be entered into the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona Hawaii 2013, so this is an event not to be missed for the chance to potentially see the fittest men and women in the world.
