The recent Easter bank holiday saw thousands of people visit Pembrokeshire and its most iconic destinations, such as Tenby and Saundersfoot.

As a result of the huge numbers of people that visited the region over the Easter holidays it is believed that tourism businesses based in Pembrokeshire received a huge boost.

It is believed that affordable Tenby cottages and holiday homes in Saundersfoot, for example, could well have beaten last year’s figures by some distance.

Holidays over Easter becoming more popular

Figures from the Great Britain Tourism board showed that the number of British residents holidaying in Wales rose by over 3 per cent to 9.93 million in 2013 compared to 2012. Other data also suggested that Easter holidays in the UK were also on the up generally.

This year, the figures for visits to Wales, and in particular Pembrokeshire, over the Easter period are set to surpass 2013. This is mainly down to the good weather and spring sunshine that was experienced over the Easter holidays.

Jane Rees-Baynes, chair of Pembrokeshire Tourism, said, “It was fantastic to see the business and attractions in the area full of visitors over Easter - especially after what felt like a very long winter. It is looking promising as the peak season approaches, which is great for the Pembrokeshire Tourism trade.”

She also noted that businesses from across the tourism trade in Pembrokeshire, including providers of new Pembrokeshire cottages and other accommodation providers, are expected to record positive visitor figures from the Easter weekend.

Jane Rees-Baynes added, “They (first time visitors) commented on how much there was to do and that they’d be coming back to Pembrokeshire to explore more of the county.”

The Pembrokeshire Tourism board also feel that the successful Easter Bank Holiday has put tourism businesses in very good condition for the summer season.
