As the British Isles bask in beautiful sunshine, the thought of heading off on holiday is more tempting than ever. Among the most popular destinations is Pembrokeshire in South Wales, a county that ticks all the boxes for families thanks to the wealth of attractions, stunning beaches and endless expanses of luscious countryside.

If you are looking to see why this region is so highly regarded during your cottage holidays in Tenby, here are some great ways to help you make the most of your visit.

Outdoor activities

With the sun shining brightly you will want to get outside and make the most of it. If you’re a family that likes getting the adrenaline pumping, a visit to Makin’ Tracks is one that you won’t regret.

One of the newest attractions in Pembrokeshire, Makin’ Tracks offers the ultimate off-road experience. Driving model tanks through water and riding Segways off-road are just some of the activities anyone aged seven or over can enjoy. Because the attraction has grown so popular, those interested are being urged to book up early to avoid disappointment.

Makin’ Tracks stands right next to The Dinosaur Park, allowing the whole family to journey back to the prehistoric age as they admire more than 30 dinosaurs along a mile-long route. After experiencing the piercing roar of the T-Rex, tip-toeing past the spitting Dilosophaur and seeing the baby Triceratops, you can visit the undercover dinosaur skeleton building, where the family can learn all manner of facts about these giants that once walked the earth. With both of these attractions situated just ten minutes away from Tenby, they are ideal for a family cottage holiday in Pembrokeshire

Indoor attractions just in case

Because of the famous unpredictability of the British weather, it is always worth factoring in a few indoor attractions just in case the sunshine makes way for a sharp shower. A favourite in this category has to be Blue Lagoon, home to one of the greatest water park experiences found across Pembrokeshire. With tropical temperatures present all year round, it offers everything you would expect from a water park; there’s a host of slides and flumes, a wave pool and even a lazy river.

Also a popular indoor attraction – particularly for history enthusiasts – is the Tenby Museum, offering the chance for people to discover the rich and illustrious past of the region. From its maritime roots to the archaeological wonders that have been dug up in years gone by, it could be a great educational day out; there’s even a treasure trail to help keep the kids entertained!

Exploring the local area

Sometimes there is nothing better than waking up early and setting off for a day of discovery, and Pembrokeshire’s beautiful countryside serves as a great place to do just that. Because you won’t want to be stuck in a car if the sun is shining, why not pay a visit to Mike’s Bikes in Haverfordwest and make the most of the great weather on pedals? With adults and kids bikes available in all sizes, they can even be delivered to your Powells Cottage so that you can hop on the saddle from right outside.

As Pembrokeshire is renowned for its variety of animals, why not take the family on a journey to the Welsh Wildlife Centre in Cilgerran? With wildlife guided tours, explorer packs and the opportunity to detect a bat just some of the features that can be enjoyed all year round, it promises to offer fun and excitement for family members both young and old.

Finally, no cottage holiday to Pembrokeshire is complete without a visit to one of the natural assets that the region boasts – among the most notable being Skomer Island, which is found just off the south western coast.

It’s an island well-known for its rich wildlife, particularly as a hotspot to admire the Atlantic Puffin as its home to the largest colony of the bird in southern Britain. Another species it is famous for is the Skomer Vole, a sub species of the Bank Vole, which is indigenous to the island.
