TV presenter Alex Jones, best known for her co-presentation of BBC One’s The One Show alongside Matt Baker and Chris Evans, is going back to her Welsh roots.

Jones is to feature in one of the episodes of BBC One programme Operation Meet The Street, where the well-known presenter is going back to her hometown of Ammanford in Carmarthenshire, Wales to make a difference in the community and attempt to put a stop to loneliness. The programme is set in five parts; in each episode James Martin invites a famous face back to the place they grew up to see if they can make a difference.

“A house by the sea in Pembrokeshire”

While Jones’ episode is to feature Ammanford, Wales as a whole is where she feels at home. In talking about the programme, she said that her motivation came from her grandparents; her grandmother is living alone not too far from picturesque coastal Tenby cottages that are popular for holidays, but this idyllic setting doesn’t stop her grandma from feeling the pains of loneliness with her grandfather having been in hospital.

“She’s unbearably lonely. She says she never realised how lucky they were to have each other for so long,” said Jones in this article, and it is this realisation of just how lonely we are becoming as a nation that has sparked the likes of this TV series and community projects.

Jones praised the strong community links that are just as alive in Ammanford as they were when she was growing up, something that is felt across the counties of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. With her parents still living in this beautiful area of Wales, it was no question that Jones would be spending Christmas in Wales saying, “I’ll definitely spend Christmas at home. I think there are 16 or 17 of us, so mum’s booked a house by the sea in Pembrokeshire, it’ll be really nice. Walks on the beach on Christmas Day and I don’t know what else.”

Jones’ episode of Operation Meet The Street airs 18th December at 9.15am on BBC One. To book your Christmas Pembrokeshire holiday cottage just like Alex Jones and enjoy a walk on the beach this Christmas Day, be sure to call Powells Cottage Holidays soon before they’re all booked up.
