To help ring in the summer, Pembroke Castle is presenting three days of fun events for the kids to enjoy. They are designed to help you and your family enjoy some time at the region’s premier historic residence.

The castle’s performance group, the Merrymakers, will present entertaining and educational shows about castle life. From the 19th to 21st July, there will be three different shows. The groups will perform “Keepers of the Castle”, host a pint-sized Pirate Day, and educate younger visitors about chivalry at Knight School.

When the kids get to the castle, they will meet some of the entertaining characters that live there. As they go through the daily routine, the Merrymakers will present their music and energy to teach visitors about the castle.

On Pirate Day, 20 July, visitors can watch pirate puppet shows and even join the crew of Black Bart to find hidden treasure. Pirates will magically sail up the Cleddau in search of the treasure of the Black Snake of the Preseli Mountains. Kids can come dressed as pirates, or borrow something from the castle’s treasure chest of fancy dress.

Finally, kids will have the opportunity to train as knights with guidance from the Merrymakers Trainers led by Sir Benfro of Pembroke Castle. There will be the opportunity to dress up as a knight (or knightess), march in a processional, and learn the customs of the castle. Participants can even storm the gates of the castle.

The castle stands at the centre of life in Southwest Wales. With stunning beaches, activities and entertainment, the area is a popular destination in the summertime. Many of our holiday cottages in Pembrokeshire are perfect for families to enjoy and make some Welsh memories.

Surrounded by a mill pond, Pembroke Castle has been extensively restored. Its structure is dominated by the complex gatehouse on the outside and the huge circular keep on the inside. The site contains a number of ancient and Norman-era buildings.
