Classic car enthusiasts descended on Pembrokeshire over the weekend to take part in the 11th annual Pendine Dash.

The event, which took place on Sunday 9th August, saw classic cars race 85 miles and drive through Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, whilst taking in six castles and the Museum of Speed in Pendine before finishing at the Picton Centre in Haverfordwest.

The race is organised by Pembrokeshire MG Car Club and attracted cars and fans from all over the UK. As a result, Pembrokeshire holiday cottages and homes were extremely busy over the weekend.

Pendine Dash is hugely popular

The Pendine Dash started at the National Botanic Garden of Wales and this year’s event is believed to have been one of the most popular in its history.

It is estimated that around 80 cars from all over Britain, including car clubs from Bridgend and Swansea, were in attendance at this year’s race.

Roy Thomas, Secretary of the Pembrokeshire MG Car Club, told the Carmarthen Journal, “This event is a popular one and is again an annual one, after it was resurrected in 2000 and proved to be a great one.”

The Pendine Dash actually dates back to a speed record attempt by an MG in 1932. To commemorate that record-breaking event, a group organised a race in 1992 called the Pendine Dash and finally in 2005 Pembrokeshire MG Car Club created what is now a hugely successful event.

The route for the race never stays the same and if you happened to be staying in popular Tenby cottages last weekend and managed to get a glimpse of all the classic cars then you are extremely lucky as the course could completely change next year.
