One man’s love of the Pembrokeshire coast has resulted in an award-winning success, and a tasty one at that.

Jonathan Williams, founder of mobile seafood van Café Môr and The Pembrokeshire Beach Food Company, made a judgement call five years ago that changed his life for the better. He swapped his nine-to-five office job in Swindon for the opportunity to start up a mobile seafood catering business in Pembrokeshire.

Although he has many awards to his name now, he has recently won the award for Best Rural Food and Drink Product or Brand at the Rural Business Awards 2015.

Anna Price, co-founder and judge of the Rural Business Awards, told Wales Online, “The UK has so many fine food traditions and we’ve had some wonderfully inspiring entries for this section.

“But The Pembrokeshire Beach Food Company was the best of the lot; it was exactly what we were hoping to find.”

Runaway success for The Pembrokeshire Beach Food Company

Since its initial beginnings in 2010, Café Môr and The Pembrokeshire Beach Food Company have gone from strength to strength. Starting as a small stall outside a farm shop in Nant Y Coy, the Café Môr van now has a regular home at Freshwater West beach and is popular with locals and tourists.

They offer local lobster and crab, and locally produced beef burgers. Foraged seaweed is the signature element of Café Môr, a sprinkling of which brings a real depth of flavour.

They are currently closed until Good Friday 2016, but will certainly be expecting a bumper year after the success so far. At the British Street Food Awards in 2011, they came away with Best looking Mobiler, Best Drink, and Best of the Best. In 2012 they catered for athletes at the London Olympic Games. In 2014 they won Best Street Food/Take Away in the UK at the BBC Food & Farming Awards.

If you’re planning to spend a spring break or summer holiday in one of our Pembrokeshire cottages by the sea, head down to Freshwater West Beach for a day of refreshing seaside and tasty seafood. Tickle your taste buds by taking a look at Café Môr's regular menu.
