An interesting evening is planned at The Salt Cellar, Tenby. Situated on the lower ground floor of the Atlantic Hotel on the Esplanade which overlooks the South Beach and Caldey Island.

This restaurant is run by four friends and provides an excellent level of service with tasty creative dishes, building a reputation of one of the best places to eat in the town, using local produce from local suppliers.

Duncan and Matt, The Salt Cellars resident chefs will collaborate with Matt Powell to provide a six-course tasting menu.  The dishes will largely consist of foraged naturally grown foods carefully picked by the chefs from hedgerows, woodlands and sea coves to produce dishes which represent Pembrokeshire in the Springtime.

Matt Powell is a qualified bass angling guide, forager and chef who has a firm understanding, appreciation and connection with the land. From an early age he would pick wild berries and vegetables grown by his late grandparents. He learnt with keen interest about wild plants and herbs and with the experience he has gained, produces meals of creativity and of excellent quality.

The menu kicks off with homemade bread with a seaweed butter.  Each course excites the palate with duck egg yolk, lovage, scurvy grass and gorse flower custard to more well-known ingredients of cured welsh sea trout and slow cooked Pembrokeshire shin of beef.  For the traditionalist there is a course of jelly and ice cream, but in true keeping with this exciting feast it’s flavoured with sloe, the bluish fruit of a blackthorn & sorrel.

The foraging menu takes place on the 19th April at 7pm, you must phone and book as there are limited tables available. Please call on 01834 844005 to book or email info@thesaltcellartenby.co.uk.

The Salt Cellar has been awarded two AA rosettes for culinary excellence, open for both lunches and evening meal.  Children are warmly welcomed and there is a menu for them, although smaller portions of dishes which are on the main menu can be served. Dogs are also welcome to accompany their owners out on the terrace where the weather permits.

If your booked into a Powells holiday cottage either in Tenby or the rest of Pembrokeshire, then book a table at The Salt Cellar and let us know about your experience, if you cannot make the foraging evening on 19th April then watch this space for further events throughout the year!
