Amroth

Travel several miles East of Tenby and you will find the delightful coastal village of Amroth.  This village is much smaller than Saundersfoot but with a large sandy beach with groynes leading down into the sea.  Historically this area of Pembrokeshire was important for anthracite coal mining and of course fishing.

At low tide a petrified forest can be seen dating back as far as the last ice age.  The sandy and pebble beach is ideal for families to relax on and for the active it’s the beginning of (or the end of!) 186 miles of coastal path.  The beach stretches the whole length of the village.  There is a dog restriction on Amroth beach from 1st May to the end of September each year on sections of the beach.

Lifeguards are provided by the RNLI daily from the beginning of July to the beginning of September.  Amroth has a couple of pubs for a meal and a café for lighter refreshments.  There is free parking along part of the beach front but this is limited.  There are also toilet facilities.

There are remains of a castle, the present building is a 19th century country house in the style of a mock castle but it possibly replaced a small stone castle.

Colby Woodland Gardens is owned and run by the National Trust and is a great place to explore, there is tree climbing, stream dipping with rubber ducks and rope swings to enjoy and of course lovely walks through the gardens down to the beach at Amroth.
