Stepaside

Stepaside is a small hamlet just 6 miles from Tenby and historically known for its coal and iron mines.  There is an old dramway which runs from Stepaside to Wisemans Bridge which is great for cycling along, as its relatively flat with easy access to Coppet Hall and Saundersfoot.

There are no shops within the village of Stepaside but a short car journey will take you to Kilgetty which has a supermarket, a launderette, takeaways and pubs and there is also a railway station.

There is a promenade, initially built for the coal trains but now forms part of the coastal path linking Saundersfoot, Coppet Hall, Wisemans Bridge and Stepaside.  Further on around the coast from Stepaside is Amroth, a popular holiday resort for families.  With its large expanse of sand backed by a bank of pebbles it’s a firm favourite for swimming and other watersports enthusiast.

There are lots of attractions close to Stepaside, the Manor Wildlife Park is situated 2 miles from Tenby and is unique in the fact that you can ‘walkthrough’ specific enclosures housing wallabies and lemurs.  This attraction now has an indoor play area if the weather is not too good and there is also a café and a gift shop.

A lovely day out can be spent in neighbouring Lawrenny, a quay once home to a thriving boat building trade but now used by the yacht club with pub and restaurant.

Bosherston lily ponds provide lovely picturesque walks with an abundant supply of wildlife from swans, otters and colourful dragon flies within the Summer months.  One walk will eventually lead you to Broadhaven South beach, again popular with families and those enjoying watersports.  A couple of miles from Bosherston is St Governs Chapel built into the cliff and steeped in history.  There are a number of steps leading to the chapel but no one can ever count them with any degree of accuracy!!

If there is one place you must visit during your stay it is Tenby with its three main beautiful beaches.  You can take a carriage ride through the streets leaving from Tudor Square with a commentary on the history of the town.  For the energetic there is ‘The Overhang’ an indoor climbing centre situated on the entrance to Castle Beach.  You can purchase a ticket at Tenby harbour to visit Caldey Island where you can visit the Old Priory and find out more on the history of the monastery.
