One of world’s rarest tigers arrives at Pembrokeshire zoo

With fewer than 400 remaining in the wild, the tiger is one of the rarest big cat species in the world and now the first of a pair of Sumatran Tigers has come to the Manor Wildlife Park.The zoo is owned by interior designer and television presenter Anna Ryder Richardson and people staying in cottages near Tenby and locals alike should head over to the zoo, which is close-by to the seaside town.

Rare sighting of a large pod of dolphins seen just off Pembrokeshire

A rare sighting of a large pod of common dolphins has been caught on camera just off the coast of Pembrokeshire this week. It is believed that the pod was 300-strong and was caught on camera by locals Charlie Thomas and his father Ron Thomas when they were on a fishing trip in Abercastle. Pembrokeshire is a great destination to see dolphins and other marine animals, as people on summer vacations in Tenby cottages and other coastal areas can take part in many activities and tours that involve local wildlife.

Classic car fans descend on Pembrokeshire

Classic car enthusiasts descended on Pembrokeshire over the weekend to take part in the 11th annual Pendine Dash.The event, which took place on Sunday 9th August, saw classic cars race 85 miles and drive through Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, whilst taking in six castles and the Museum of Speed in Pendine before finishing at the Picton Centre in Haverfordwest.

Two triathlons to start from Fishguard

Wales and Pembrokeshire are developing an international sporting reputation for highly competitive triathlons. With Ironman Wales set for mid-September, two smaller events are being held on 1 August to get competitors and spectators excited. The inaugural Ocean Lava Wales Triathlon will have athletes swim, bike and run from Fishguard into the Pembrokeshire countryside and back. The Wales Sprint Triathlon will be run later in the day along a similar course.

Fishguard music festival set to captivate Pembrokeshire

Today marks the start of the 46th annual Fishguard International Music Festival. Now a global event, it attracts some of the most talented artists from all over the world. The 12-day event continues in the Welsh town until 30 July. Started by joint artistic directors Peter Donohoe and Gillian Green, the event brings together orchestras, opera singers, soloists and chamber ensembles. To highlight the event, there will be orchestral concerts from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, members of Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, Sinfonia Cymru and National Youth Orchestra of Wales.

Tenby to be more pedestrian friendly this summer

A popular destination for holiday travellers, Tenby in Pembrokeshire will be closed to vehicle traffic for a bit longer this year. The town's annual scheme to promote pedestrian traffic in the warmer months has been extended by three weeks this year, and the roads are now shut longer during the day.

Gardening celebrities descend on National Botanic Garden

For gardening enthusiasts, the National Botanic Garden in Wales is ready to roll out the red carpet for green-thumbed celebrities this month. BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time will be at the Llanarthne garden in Carmarthenshire. There will be shows broadcast live on the radio for two afternoon slots of the popular programme on Sunday 19 July.  Experts will be on hand to answer all your horticultural questions and help promote some of the great work being done at the National Botanic Garden.
