Celebrate the school holidays at Pembroke Castle

To help ring in the summer, Pembroke Castle is presenting three days of fun events for the kids to enjoy. They are designed to help you and your family enjoy some time at the region’s premier historic residence. The castle’s performance group, the Merrymakers, will present entertaining and educational shows about castle life. From the 19th to 21st July, there will be three different shows. The groups will perform “Keepers of the Castle”, host a pint-sized Pirate Day, and educate younger visitors about chivalry at Knight School.

New life for St. Catherine’s Island in Tenby

Plans have been approved to re-vitalise St. Catherine’s Island and its fort. The site, advocates say, will become yet another reason for visitors to enjoy the coast in South Wales. Executives at the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s approved the improvements proposed at the landmark in Tenby. The plans call for a new visitor attraction and retail centre on the island. Despite resistance from some, the development committee approved the measure saying they believed it will provide economic benefits for the popular resort town.

Calling all anglers: Pembrokeshire’s first Lure Fishing Festival

Near the end of June, the region will welcome fishermen from all parts ready to test their skills in a variety of competitions and fishing techniques. The Lure Fishing Festival starts on 26th June.There will be a number of prizes for fishing from boats, kayaks and the shore with the assistance of lures only. There are “catch and release” species hunt prizes, the greatest number of a single species, as well as total species length. There are special awards categories for juniors, female and visiting fishermen.

St Catherine’s island fort to re-open to the public

After being closed for decades St Catherine’s island fort is going to re-open to the public. Plans have been approved by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park planning committee because of the economic benefit that the tourist attraction would bring from people staying in B&B’s and holiday cottages in Tenby. The new plans propose that the fort is to be restored and a nature walk is added to the island along with boat landings and shops according to this BBC article.
